OMG…as a diabetic, my blood sugar would rise significantly if I ingested berries, citrus fruits, apples and to some extent, tomatoes and beans. These are carbohydrates, i.e. sugar. Do your research; this is an irresponsible article and dangerous advice to diabetics. Just eat berries with other low glycemic foods and you won’t have a problem. This article doesn´t mean you should eat all of them in iust one meal. Try reading "The End of Diabetes" by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. Complex carbs, such as fruit (in moderation) and veggies are necessary for good health. It’s the simple/refined carbs that can cause problems, such as pasta, rice, grains, and starchy vegetables like potatoes and corn. I will never "cut down on carbs, both simple and complex" because they are the best source of vitamins and minerals, and frankly, my favorite food groups. Not too crazy about meats, so eggs, nuts, seeds, and beans provide protein.
Also, I have found that exercise helps a lot. Mary Ann, sorry for my rant. If those things work for you… ’em. They all just raise my A1c like gangbusters. I have read Fuhrman’s book. I much prefer Richard Bernstein’s book, "The Diabetes Solution". Dr. B has been a diabetic for 50 years and is currently one of the top diabetologists in the country. Following his method, I have been able to keep my A1c in the low 5s with one Metformin pill a day. Also, I am aware that all type 2s are different, so stick with what works for you. You do not know what you are talking about. Fat and stupid is no way to go through life, lady. So your contribution to this discussion is to call me fat and stupid? "Writers" should not be allowed to publish an article about diabetes without specifying that she is referring specifically to Type II.
"not only treatable, but preventable." HUGE difference between Type II and Type I Diabetes. They should really have a different name for the two issues. PantherButt. Do a little research. Genetics and age play a role in onset of Type II diabetes as well as other lifestyle factors. For example…. I was 185lbs, 5′-11″, age 30, and active when I was diagnosed. Preventable for some yes, for others no. Don’t lump everyone in the same boat. It isn’t so much what you eat as what you don’t eat. Just cut way down on carbs, both "simple" and "complex". Won’t solve everything if you are type 2 diabetic, but it will help … I think the article was great. Could work if kidneys are not damaged from diabetes. Those with CRF need to avoid tomatoes, chocolate, beans, except stringbeans, etc. I still will try the strawberries, apples, etc and think you should continue to publish differing opinions and let the ppl choose for themselves. Tx for article. I am going show it to some of my diabetic friends. Yes, its not a surprise that unrefined whole foods help control blood sugar. I am not sure where you are getting your info, but great topic. I needs to spend some time learning more or understanding more. Thanks for wonderful info I was looking for this info for my mission.
Healthy kidneys maintain the blood creatinine within a normal range. However, as kidney function declines, the kidneys may be unable to clear the creatinine level in the blood. Abnormally high levels of creatinine could indicate potential kidney malfunction or failure. For this reason, the doctors conduct a creatinine test (along with other tests) to determine how well your kidneys perform. Any condition that affects the function of the kidneys is likely to elevate the creatinine level in the blood. It is essential to work with your nephrologist to develop a treatment plan to address any medical issues that might be implicating your kidney function. In this article, we will look at the definition of creatinine, the test to determine the creatinine levels in the blood, ways to lower creatinine levels, and myths about lowering creatinine. Creatinine is a waste product produced mainly by muscle activities from the breakdown of the compound called creatine. Creatine is a metabolite from creatine phosphate from muscle and protein metabolism, which the body uses to supply energy to the muscles.
As the muscles use energy, the tissue that comprises the muscles break down naturally, releasing the creatinine into the bloodstream. Creatinine can build up in the blood from a high protein intake, intense workout, medication or supplement dosage, or if a person has a kidney problem. Healthy kidneys filter creatinine from the blood and excrete it from the body through urine. However, impaired kidneys couldn’t filter creatinine and other waste materials properly from the body, thereby causing waste buildup. Doctors typically use a creatinine test to determine kidney function. However, checking the presence of creatinine alone in your blood isn’t the best way to evaluate your kidney health since your creatinine level is dependent on your age, race, gender, and body size. The best way to determine your kidney function is through Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR). GFR is a calculation of your creatinine level, GlucoLife daily glucose support age, gender, race, and weight. Your GFR number will help your doctor determine if you have kidney disease.
